A day after a young man was killed in a firing by the Border Security Force personnel in Rohtak, the Jat agitation over reservation escalated across Haryana including Gurgaon with the Deputy Commissioner invoking Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the Millennium City preventing assembly of five or more persons.
The industry in the district was also badly hit with the Maruti suspending manufacturing of cars.
Issuing the orders, Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash said that Section 144 was invoked to “thwart and prevent occurrence of any unlawful activities, blocking of roads, passages, railway tracks, water channel…”. Also, Duty Magistrates were appointed to 24 police stations to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the Jat protesters continued to block all major intersections and roads in the city on Saturday.
The Basai Road, that connects Gurgaon to Jhajjar, was blocked in the morning and soon Daultabad flyover and Atul Kataria Chowk were also blocked. Besides, Subhash Chowk, Chaudhary Bakhtawar Chowk, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Dhankot, Basai and Gurgaon Gaon were also blocked. “We are not going to withdraw the agitation till our demands are met,” said Rashtriya Jat Mahasabha (RJM) spokesperson Paramjit Pawadia.
“Situation has remained peaceful in Gurgaon. In terms of road blockades also it was better than yesterday. Several road blockages were put up. Many of them got lifted within a few minutes after discussions. Rail services on the Delhi-Jaipur line were affected for a couple of hours near Patli village. ,” said Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Virk
