Bidar : Following directions from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Deputy Commissioner H.R. Mahadev has launched an inquiry into the allegation that Prabhu Chauhan, BJP MLA from Aurad, had won the election on an invalid caste certificate. Petitioner Shankar Doddi has accused Mr. Chauhan of providing a false caste certificate. Mr. Chauhan was born in Maharashtra where Lambanis are not included in the Scheduled Castes list.
He, however, fudged documents to claim reservation benefits. His election to the Assembly should be cancelled, the petitioner claimed before Dr. Mahadev who is also the District Magistrate.
Mr. Doddi had argued before the National Commission on the invalidity of the MLA’s caste certificate. The commission had ordered a preliminary inquiry through the State Civil Rights Enforcement Cell that had found some claims of Mr. Doddi to be correct.
The commission instructed the District Magistrate to conduct a hearing on the issue by issuing notices to both the parties.
Meanwhile, Mr. Doddi told The Hindu that the District Magistrate has expressed his inability to conduct daily hearing in the matter. “This was recorded on our request,” he said. The next hearing is on May 8, he added
